Date: August 5, 2025
Location: Advanced College of Engineering and Management (ACEM), Kathmandu, Nepal

Advanced College of Engineering and Management (ACEM) has launched a prestigious one-month training program on the drone industry, led by Dr. Jaedong Choi, Chair of the Department of Industrial Drone at Far East University, South Korea. The program officially began on August 5, 2025 (Shrawan 20, 2082) and is being hosted at the ACEM campus in Kathmandu.

Dr. Choi is a highly accomplished academic and researcher in the field of drone technology and aerospace systems. He holds degrees from top institutions including:

  • B.S. from Korea Air Force Academy and Seoul National University

  • M.S. from Yonsei University

  • Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA

He has led multiple national and international-level drone-related projects, such as:

  • AI-integrated hydrogen drone systems for forest fire detection and response

  • Strategic planning for national drone industry development

  • Creation of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) demonstration complexes

  • Design of adaptable drone sports stadium infrastructure

  • Marine safety monitoring and illegal fishing control using drones

Through this month-long initiative, Dr. Choi is working closely with ACEM faculty members, offering theoretical knowledge and practical insights into cutting-edge drone technologies. The training focuses on both technical and application aspects of drones, including AI integration, aerial data collection, environmental monitoring, and regulatory frameworks.

For a country like Nepal, which features complex terrain and frequent natural hazards, drone technology holds significant promise. From enhancing disaster preparedness and agricultural productivity to monitoring infrastructure and supporting conservation efforts, the potential applications are extensive.

This collaboration not only strengthens the technical capacity of Nepal’s engineering educators but also signals a larger step toward the development of a sustainable and innovative drone ecosystem in the country.

ACEM remains committed to fostering global academic partnerships that drive technological advancement, research, and real-world impact.
