Kathmandu, Nepal – July 30 2025
In a significant step toward strengthening Nepal’s academic ecosystem and fostering global partnerships, the Advanced College of Engineering and Management (ACEM) and the Association of British Alumni in Nepal (ABAN) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 30, 2025. The agreement establishes a long-term framework for collaboration in education, innovation, leadership development, and resource sharing.
The MoU was signed during a formal ceremony hosted at Advanced College of Engineering and Management (ACEM) campus in Kalanki, Kathmandu, in the presence of key representatives and distinguished guests from both institutions. This collaboration marks a new chapter in ACEM’s efforts to provide holistic, globally informed educational experiences, while reinforcing ABAN’s mission to leverage the expertise of British alumni in advancing education and social impact in Nepal.
The official signatories of the MoU were Mr. Ramesh Kumar Silwal, Chairperson of ACEM, and Dr. Nastu Prasad Sharma, President of ABAN. During the signing ceremony, both leaders emphasized the strategic value of the partnership and its anticipated impact on Nepal’s academic and professional communities.
Mr. Ramesh Kumar Silwal, Chairperson of ACEM, expressed:
“This partnership with ABAN reflects our institution’s vision of bridging academic learning with global perspectives. It will provide our students, faculty and staff members with meaningful access to international networks, mentorship from globally experienced professionals, and exposure to innovative educational practices. We believe this collaboration will empower our academic community and significantly contribute to the broader goals of education and national development.”
Dr. Nastu Prasad Sharma, President of ABAN, remarked:
“This collaboration with ACEM embodies our shared commitment to education, innovation, and national development. We see this partnership as a dynamic platform to connect British alumni expertise with the leading academic institutions in a way that nurtures leadership and fosters global engagement. ABAN is eager to contribute its diverse network of internationally trained professionals to support ACEM’s vision and to empower students and educators through mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and international exposure.”
During the program, Er. Sojan Prajapati, Head of the Research and Innovation Unit (RIU) at ACEM, shed light on ACEM's deep commitment to research and innovation. He emphasized how the RIU is actively working to bridge the gap between industry and academia by fostering a culture of research and publications, promoting real-world problem solving, and supporting interdisciplinary research that aligns with both global trends and local needs.
The signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlines a comprehensive strategic plan for cooperation between the partnering institutions, focusing on enhancing institutional capacity, fostering innovation, and improving student outcomes through a range of collaborative initiatives. One of the key areas of collaboration is academic exchange and knowledge sharing, which will involve the joint planning and execution of seminars, workshops, training programs, and conferences across various disciplines such as engineering, information and communication technology (ICT), leadership, humanities, and innovation.
Another central focus is mentorship and professional development. ABAN will leverage its extensive network of internationally educated professionals to provide guidance to ACEM students and educators on topics including academic research, global postgraduate education opportunities, and career planning. In terms of resource sharing, ACEM will support ABAN-led initiatives by offering access to its facilities and infrastructure, while ABAN will contribute expert lectures, academic resources, and access to its professional networks.
The partnership also aims to provide international exposure for students. ABAN will assist in exploring global education pathways, particularly in the UK, by offering advisory support and facilitating connections with alumni networks abroad. Additionally, the institutions will collaborate on research and innovation in high-impact areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and sustainability. This cooperation is intended to strengthen ACEM’s research culture and align academic output with both national and global priorities.
To ensure the integrity and fairness of the partnership, the agreement includes provisions for maintaining the confidentiality of shared information, the equitable use of intellectual property, and the establishment of mechanisms for conflict resolution through mutual understanding or arbitration.
This MoU represents more than just a formal agreement, it reflects a shared vision to transform Nepal’s educational landscape through research, innovation, collaboration, and global engagement. By combining their respective strengths, ACEM and ABAN are poised to create meaningful impact by nurturing talent, promoting academic excellence, and empowering the next generation of engineers, entrepreneurs, researchers, educators, scholars, intellectuals and changemakers.
