The Advanced Robotics Club of the Advanced College of Engineering and Management has achieved a remarkable milestone - their project Krisa.ai has won the prestigious ‘Responsible AI for Youth’ Hackathon, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Nepal. This groundbreaking innovation is set to transform Nepal’s agrifood systems by empowering smallholder farmers with cutting-edge technology.
Krisa.ai is a portable, solar-powered smart farming assistant that integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and voice technology to deliver real-time, localized farming advice in Nepali and other languages. Tailored for remote areas with limited electricity and weak internet connectivity, it runs on solar power and connects to the internet via LTE networks, ensuring uninterrupted service for farmers in the most challenging environments.
The system gathers real-time soil, weather, and crop data to provide instant insights on crop care, irrigation schedules, yield predictions, and pest or disease management. Farmers receive not just standard recommendations, but also localized remedies that suit their specific conditions. Its AI-powered alarm system can detect animal intrusions using on-device (edge) processing, while cloud-based analytics monitor crop health and detect diseases early - helping farmers take timely action to protect their harvest.
By combining accessibility, sustainability, and technological innovation, Krisa.ai has the potential to boost productivity, increase farmers’ incomes, and strengthen Nepal’s food security.
Congratulations to the talented team of ARC Mr. Aayush Raj Nepal, Mr. Anurag Jha, Mr. Bhuwan Basnet, Mr. Dipesh Bhatta, Mr. Sonu Alam, and Mr. Safal Sapkota for their visionary work and well-deserved victory. Their innovation stands as a shining example of how responsible AI can bring life-changing benefits to communities.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to FAO Nepal for organizing this inspiring event and providing a platform for young innovators to showcase their solutions for real-world challenges.
