ACEM Students Showcase Innovative Digital Heritage Project at National STEAM Competition

Posted on June 22, 2026

The Advanced College of Engineering and Management (ACEM) proudly congratulates Ms. Yuttena Singh Dangol, Mr. Nabin Timsina, and Ms. Prepshuna Dhakal, second-year students of the Electronics, Communication and Information Engineering program, for successfully showcasing their project, “Interactive Platform for Traditional Musical Instruments of Nepal,” at the Exhibition of STEAM Materials Design Competition 2083 held at the BP Koirala Memorial Planetarium, Observatory and Science Museum, Kirtipur, Kathmandu on Ashadh 7, 2083 (June 21, 2026).

Selected among university teams from across Nepal, the students presented Baja Nepal, an innovative digital platform designed to preserve, document, and promote Nepal’s traditional musical heritage through modern technology. The platform features interactive 3D models of traditional musical instruments, including Madal, Bansuri, Sarangi, and Dhime, allowing users to explore their structure, significance, and cultural importance in an engaging and immersive manner.

The team was mentored by Dr. Raksha Dangol, Deputy Head of the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering at ACEM, whose persistent guidance, unwavering encouragement, and dedicated academic support were instrumental in the successful development and presentation of the project at the national-level competition.

In addition to the 3D models, the platform provides expert-led tutorials, multimedia resources, and cultural documentation that help users gain a deeper understanding of Nepal’s rich musical traditions. With a dual-language interface available in both Nepali and English, Baja Nepal aims to make traditional knowledge accessible to local and international audiences alike.

The project was developed with the vision of bridging technology and culture, demonstrating how digital innovation can contribute to safeguarding Nepal’s intangible cultural heritage. By creating an interactive learning environment, the students have introduced a modern approach to cultural preservation that can inspire younger generations to learn about and appreciate traditional Nepali music.

During the exhibition, the project received positive feedback from experts, educators, and visitors for its creativity, technical implementation, and social relevance. The judges particularly appreciated the team’s effort to utilize digital technologies for cultural preservation and education.

The exhibition was graced by Honorable Minister Mahabir Pun, Secretary Pramila Devi Shakya Bajracharya, and senior officials from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MoSTI), Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, who interacted with participating students and explored the showcased projects. The event concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony recognizing the students' innovative contributions.

This achievement reflects the students’ dedication, creativity, and technical excellence while also highlighting ACEM’s commitment to fostering innovation, research, and interdisciplinary learning. The college takes great pride in the accomplishments of Ms. Dangol, Mr. Timsina, and Ms. Dhakal and wishes them continued success in their future academic and professional endeavors.

ACEM extends its heartfelt congratulations to the team for representing the institution with distinction and for demonstrating how technology can be effectively utilized to preserve and promote Nepal’s invaluable cultural heritage.
