The AI Research Center of Advanced College of Engineering and Management (ACEM) successfully conducted a workshop titled "Literature Review: How to Read a Research Paper" on Asadh 5, 2083 (June 19, 2026) from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM . The workshop was organized for undergraduate students of Computer Engineering and Electronics, Communication and Information Engineering with the objective of enhancing their research and academic writing skills.
The session was led by Dr. Bipun Man Pati, DEng., with assistance from Er. Ukesh Thapa. The workshop witnessed active participation from more than 60 students, reflecting a growing interest in research and innovation among ACEM students. The program was also graced by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Er. Laxmi Bhakta Maharjan, Vice-Principal of ACEM, whose encouragement further motivated the participants.
The workshop focused on one of the most critical aspects of academic research, conducting an effective literature review and systematically reading research papers to identify research gaps. The resource persons emphasized that research papers should be approached strategically rather than read from beginning to end like textbooks. Participants were introduced to practical techniques for extracting key information, understanding research methodologies, evaluating findings, and recognizing unexplored areas for future investigation.
The major topics covered during the session included:
Introduction to Literature Review and its significance in research
Approaches to conducting a systematic literature review
Effective methods for reading and analyzing research papers
Techniques for identifying and defining research gaps
The workshop provided students with valuable insights into the research process and equipped them with practical skills necessary for undertaking academic projects, final-year research, and scholarly publications. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, participants gained a deeper understanding of how literature review serves as the foundation for quality research.
The AI Research Center of Advanced College of Engineering and Management (ACEM) remains committed to fostering a strong research culture by organizing capacity-building programs, workshops, and training sessions that bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world engineering research and innovation.
